Avon Care Homes welcomes you to South Cary House in the beautiful historic market town of Castle Cary. The Grade 11 listed Georgian house is set in its own grounds of approximately one acre but is still within walking distance of the town. There is a regular bus service to Yeovil and Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary has a train station with regular services on the London to Plymouth line.

In the comfort and security of South Cary House we provide a relaxed, comfortable and happy environment for our residents. We place a strong emphasis on the preservation of dignity, privacy and respect for each individual’s choice of lifestyle.

Decoration throughout the home is very elegant and tasteful. We cater for up to twenty-three residents. The private rooms are spacious, and all the rooms exceed the minimum standard of twelve square metres. Each room has en-suite facilities, a 24 hour emergency call system and all have their own private telephone. Residents may bring their own furniture if they wish to create their own “home from home”.

A beautiful drawing room and dining room are situated on the ground floor. There is also a wonderful seating area in the Sun Room with views looking out to the gardens. Visitors are welcome at any time of day to join the residents and spend time in the relaxed atmosphere of South Cary House.

Residents may choose where they wish to dine, the dining room, sun room or their own rooms as they wish. We take pride in our home cooking, always providing a delicious and nutritious menu. Alternative choices are offered and special diets catered for.

Avon Care Homes staff, at South Cary House, maintain very high standards of care and every effort is made to achieve a good quality of life for the residents. The majority of our staff has achieved NVQ level 2 or 3 in Direct Care. We offer an excellent ratio of staff to resident care, and we also have two staff on duty throughout the night to cater for all the residents’ needs.

Our staff organise weekly activities and trips out, activities include coffee and sherry mornings, quizzes, card games and visiting musicians. Residents can join in as they wish.

Health Care Professionals, Doctors, Chiropodists and Hairdressers are available as required. Other treatments and therapies are available if desired.

Avon Care Homes are delighted to have been awarded an “Outstanding” for Care by the Care Quality Commission.

Reviews

Review from Roderick W (Son of Resident)
I cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention given to my mother in her last few weeks. Good food, kind and attentive staff and a lovely room overlooking the garden. Previously my aunt, who was a very difficult lady, was also well cared for.

Review from A P (Nephew of Resident)
My aunt was recently very ill and we thought approaching death. However she was coaxed by the staff to start drinking, and eventually eating again and has now, amazingly, recovered. I want to draw your attention to the outstanding, sympathetic, supportive help my aunt receives from so many of the care staff during this anxious period. They so obviously enjoy their responsibilities and carry them out as a caring team.
